Nothing I love more than helping out in taking care of our planet.
Because the trip was pretty long and theres too many to blog about I'll just keep it simple and just tell you guys bout some of the programme highlights.
Welcome to Chagar Hutang, Terengganu
1) Turtle Conservation
Basically that is the whole purpose we are there, for the turtles! At night volunteers take turns in patrolling the beach at night incase any turtles land on our beach, and if they do land, we gotta take note on the time/where it lands, whether they lay eggs or not. And if they lay eggs we gota count the eggs and relocate the eggs in case the place it chose isn't suitable for the incubation process. Let me just tell you a turle is HUGE in size, I was shocked to see it with my own eyes....the whole waiting-for-the-turtle-to-lay eggs-and-reenters-the-sea process can take up to 7 hours sometimes I'll just sleep on the beach while waiting. Penat kot. Haha
In the evening around 530pm we will do the excavation process in which we will dig up 45days old or more nests and see hows the eggs doing. Hatched? Unhatched? Sometimes we'll dig and see the baby turtles are on the way up. TOO CUTE! And some we will see baby turtles that don't survive and it is really sad to see them dead because they're maybe to weak/attacked by predators such as rats/monitor lizards/crabs.
2) Back to Basics
We lived without any electricity at all! Isn't that the best thing? We do have solar panels to collect sun energy for camera/ipod/phone charging. Its funny how when theres electricty everyone fights to charge their gadgets
And at night, we basically depend on candles and torchlights. Cool ain't it. You will be surprise at how your eyes can adjust in the darkness and you can actually see.
2) Hiking
Hiking adventure is fun but can be really tiring but it is all worth it once you get to see the view! We went no a couple of hiking activities.
3) Cooking
We cook ourselves for the group and it is real fun as we help each other to cook meals and let me tell you some of us can cook really well! Lemon chicken, tom yam, potato salad, pasta, cantonese kuey teow. Eating is another major activities there. So much food supplied, we never really got hungry :)
